Robert A. Schulman, MD, FAAPMR, FAAMADr. Schulman is in private practice New York City. He is board certified in PMR, Pain Medicine, and Medical Acupuncture. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and his residency training was performed at the Weill-Cornell Medical Center. He maintains a faculty appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Weill Cornell Medical College, and is an Assistant Attending at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Schulman has served on the Board of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture for many years, and currently sits on the Board of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. He has served as the Chairman of the Website Committee, and is currently the Chair of the Legal and Legislative Council. The Council's current mandate is creation of a white paper position statement regarding billing and coding for acupuncture, and creating a liaison between AAMA members and the insurance industry. Dr. Schulman created and teaches the Pain Mega Show for HMI, and has served as a preceptor with HMI for over eleven years. He is currently on a one year sabbatical from HMI, and plans to use the time for gaining additional medical training in herbal medicine, prolotherapy, cranial osteopathy, and pursue interests in Buddhist Meditation. Dr. Schulman received formal study in Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine, and is the author of a book on herbs and nutritional supplements. Prior to medical school Dr. Schulman received a BA in Dance and Theater from the Naropa University, in Boulder, Colorado. He subsequently obtained formal training in Massage Therapy from the Jay Victor Scherer Academy of Natural Healing in Santa Fe, NM, and additional training in a myofascial technique similar to Rolfing. While in Santa Fe, he founded the Bubbling Well School of Tai Chi Chuan, where he taught the Yang Style Short Form of Professor Cheng Man-Ching. Dr. Schulman's practice in Manhattan focuses in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Pain Medicine, Herbal Medicine, Functional Medicine, Osteopathy, and Medical Acupuncture. The Physical Therapists in his office are trained in a variety of techniques- Feldenkrais, Trager, Rosen, Iyengar, Ashtanga and Restorative Yoga, and Massage Therapy.
